Pakistan, China Make 12 Agreements: Shah Mahmood Qureshi


ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that 12 agreements were signed between China and Pakistan during President Zardari’s recent visit to Beijing.

Addressing a joint press conference along with Finance Advisor, Shaukat Tareen, Foreign Minister Qureshi said that five agreements are of great importance for Pakistan.

He said that China would set up two atomic power plants in Pakistan, adding the country will get 680 megawatts of electricity from Chashma-3 and Chashma-4 power plants. He said the initiative would help overcome the ongoing power crisis.

Qureshi announced that Pak-China Joint Atomic Commission would meet soon. “China will also cooperate us in Bhasha and Kohala dams,” said Qureshi, adding that President Zardari would visit the China after every three months.

He said Pakistan would soon launch its first communication satellite in collaboration with China. Qureshi said that two countries would work together to enhance their cooperation in agriculture and economic sectors. China would also offer its support in the fields of minerals and energy, he said.

He announced that two countries would sign the bilateral trade pact soon. Qureshi said that the government would provide lands to the Chinese investors to set up industries in Pakistan. China had decided to support in ‘Friends of Pakistan’ forum, he said.

Foreign Minister Qureshi further said that Chinese bankers would be invited to open their branches in Pakistan, adding a Chinese delegation will soon arrive in Pakistan in this connection. He said China would be provided the land to open its embassy in the federal capital.

Qureshi added that the president’s visit to China was aimed at strengthening the friendship between two countries without any interest. All objectives of the visit have been achieved, he commented.
