Amrita enjoying life

After Bebo, it’s her best friend Amrita Arora who’s flying high these days.

Why so? Well, for starters, she has a new boyfriend and second, a hit movie. And now as the New Year is approaching, she plans to sing... Main Taali Ho Gayi.

But hold on! She has no real plans to get ‘high’ on the actual spirit, as she told us from Cape Town where she's currently shooting, “With Christmas and New Year’s on the way I’m getting into a fun-filled, celebration mood.

I want to enjoy the season by pledging myself to a ‘No Drinking and driving’. And I would like to request all my fans to strictly say no to drinking and driving. If they want to get high, come celebrate along with me and watch all my forthcoming films with me,” she giggles. Any takers?

Neha minds wearing a two piece

She emerged from the blue waters in a gold bikini in her debut film Qayamat, which released five years ago.

The culture police wrote her off, and her seniors and fellow contemporaries didn’t take to her two-piece ‘hip’ avatar very kindly. “The actresses who didn’t want to show skin, and swore that they’d never wear bikinis and swimsuits then, are doing just that these days. People are hypocritical, and have double-standards,” says Neha Dhupia, shrugging.

“And those who reprimanded me are applauding them like there’s no tomorrow! But you know what? I don’t think wearing a two-piece is cool anymore. I've been there, done that years ago!” claims the actor who has shifted from the show-substantial-skin mode to more serious cinema!

A compromise on hard-core commercial flicks, may have brought with it lesser fame, money and close to zero GQ (Glam Quotient)? “Maybe, but the satisfaction is immense, and the contentment I derive from my work today is multifold. Being a part of simple, beautiful films like Mithya, Maharathi, Dasvidaniya... and working with the likes of Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal... has given me more than what money ever could. They’re stalwarts and they do no wrong!

Neha Dhupia Hot kissing secene

“I’ve dabbled in ‘commercial films’ at the beginning of my career,” explains Neha, “But priorities change over time. Yes, I could’ve made an obnoxious amount of money by taking up more commercially viable projects. But what am I going to do with so much money? I’m earning enough,” she says.

Working with actors who are twice her age, and not necessarily conventionally good-looking, boyfriend Ritwik Bhattacharya must be heaving a sigh of relief. “Listen, if I’m working with Naseer and Paresh, I’ve also worked with the Akshay Kumars, Ajay Devgans and Emraan Hashmis. But I’ll never give Ritwik a reason to feel insecure. Not even if I get to do a film with Brad Pitt,” winks Neha!

Vidya Balan’s night fantasy!

Okay, now here’s another one about our Plain Jane-turned-glam doll, Vidya

Balan.

Sexy Video Vidya Balan

The girl we hear is actually following in the footsteps of Shah Rukh Khan. One minute, she isn’t getting six-pack abs, but like King Khan, she too is a night bird! In short, like an owl, Ms Balan likes to work at night and that’s the raaz of her high energy levels.

Oh really? We never knew, she had any. Anyways, we hear that she just loves shooting for night schedules. “She feels that energy levels are high during the night rather than in the day. During the day the heat saps her making her energy levels go down.

She likes shooting in the nights,” says her friend and adds “Vidya is at her chirpiest in the night,” Wokay, Wokay, point taken. But someone needs to tell Ms Balan that a pretty girl like her should get her beauty sleep at night and not waste her energy khaali phokat.

Jude and ex-wife heading for reconciliation?

Hollywood actor Jude Law and his ex-wife Sadie Frost have fuelled rumours that they are on their way to reconciling, after being spotted

together frequently.

Sources have revealed that the ‘Artificial Intelligence’ actor has been hunting for a house with ex-wife.

The divorced couple are also said to be going on a Brazilian holiday together, with sources suggesting that they have booked a Christmas getaway for the whole family in South America.

“Jude and Sadie have been getting on fantastically in the past six months. When her business, FrostFrench, went bust, Jude offered his support in any way. He decided to help her buy somewhere in Hampshire, in the countryside, a real family place. They plan to invest together and give their children a truly loving home,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

“They have always tried to stay on good terms for the sake of their kids and Christmas is important to both of them. So this year they’re splashing out on a luxury break to Brazil to spend the festive break as a family,” the source added.

Jude, 35, and Sadie, 43, who divorced five years ago, have added fire to the reconciliation claims after they were snapped looking close at the Royal Opera House on Monday.

“They’ve become increasingly touchy-feely of late and pals are desperately hoping a romantic reunion is on the cards,” a source said.

“Sadie’s on-off boyfriend Christian Marr is off the scene at the moment, so the way is paved for Jude,” the source added.

Randeep and Nandana: Cold vibes?

With recession hitting globally, it’s rather quiet in our Bollywood bylanes too.

But not with our Bollywood’s usual gossip mongers who are as usual working round the clock. And here’s what we stumbled upon. We hear Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen recently shared some real thanda-thanda vibes during the promotion of their film Rang Rasiya. The film was recently screened alongside Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire' at a film festival abroad. After that Randeep and Nandana travelled to Sri Lanka for a fund-raising event for the forthcoming Sri Lanka Film Festival
and that’s when, our source adds, they ended up in a tu-tu-mein-mein.

And ever since the co-actors are at loggerheads. When we asked Nandana, she told us, “People are fighting all over the world. So I guess we’re just being in character and they thought we are fighting and share cold vibes. But seriously, Sri Lanka is such a beautiful place. This was my first visit and I loved the place.” Strange... hai na? We asked her about sharing cold vibes with her hero, and she’s talking about Sri Lanka and her experiences there. Maybe, some girls are just short of hearing, huh?

PML-N Hails Disbanding Of ISI Political Wing

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has acknowledged disbandment of the political wing of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) as a positive step towards strengthening of democracy and the democratic system.

“However, to term it as a real milestone, the government needs to take appropriate measures to close down the political wings of all intelligence agencies,” PML-N Central Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said in a statement on Thursday.

He said it was clearly stated in the Charter of Democracy (CoD) that the political wings of all of the intelligence agencies would be disbanded. “Similarly, the government under the CoD is under moral obligation to constitute a committee which should review the misuse of security agencies to protect professionalism of these institutions,” he said.

Ahsan observed mere stoppage of ISI from such activities which were harmful for the governments and political set-ups is not enough but it was also need to ensure that no other agency should sabotage the democratic process and parties in future.

Ahsan said it was a matter of great concern for the well wishers of democracy that the government even after nine months has failed to make any serious move towards optimising the performance of democratic institutions, its functionaries and appointees.

Mendis Sets Up Narrow Sri Lanka Win

HARARE: Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis captured a career-best 6-29 as the tourists edged Zimbabwe by two wickets to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match one-day series here.

Mendis helped bowl out Zimbabwe for just 147 in 46.3 overs and they seemed set fair for a comfortable victory, especially after Zimbabwe had slumped to low scores of 124 and 67 all out in earlier matches.

But they endured an anxious afternoon as they just managed to scramble over the line with eight wickets down, making a hard fought 150-8 in 47.3 overs.

For Zimbabwe, Keith Dabengwa top scored with 32 off 59 balls as his colleagues fell regularly.

For Sri Lanka, their batting hero was Jehan Mubarak, whose 60 not out came off 99 balls but turned out to be the match winner.

They had been 33-0 and looking secure but they were suddenly reeling at 33-3, with Elton Chigumbura taking three wickets in one over, including Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayewardene who failed to score.

The tourists were suddenly on the back foot as they were 55-4, 95-5, 101-6 and then 116-7.

Prosper Utseya chipped in with 1-18 and Ray Price with 1-24, economy rates which could have proved decisive had the home side had the runs to play with.

Chigumbura finished with 3-35 and Tawanda Mupariwa 3-34.

Had Sri Lanka had lost they would have been the first losers here since West Indies more than two years ago.

The fifth and final match takes place here on Sunday.

England Captain Pregnant Wife Trapped In Bangkok Chaos

LONDON: England rugby league captain Jamie Peacock said Friday his pregnant wife and four-year-old son were “effectively being held hostage” in Bangkok by protesters besieging the main airports.

The 30-year-old Leeds prop said the demonstrators had “made their point” and needed to let innocent tourists escape the chaos.

Peacock’s wife Faye, 33, who is six months pregnant, their son Lewis, four, and Faye’s mother Pat, 60, were due to fly back to Britain from Bangkok on Monday.

“More of an effort needs to be made to get all the people who are stuck there out of there, because the country is on the brink of a lot of trouble,” he said.

“I think it has hit home that it is going to be a real struggle to get out of there, which it shouldn’t be.

“They are trying to use an army air base to get people out, but not enough flights are going through there, it is not being used to its capacity.”

Of the protesters, he said: “Some of them are naive, I think, if they think this is a harmless and peaceful protest.

“People like my wife and son are effectively being held hostage in Bangkok. They’re stuck there and they can’t leave of their own free will.

“They’ve made their point, and they need to move on now.”

The Peacock family had been in Australia, watching England play in the World Cup.

“It’s rather frustrating to be honest and I’m worrying as well. She’s 31 weeks now, she’s just on the limit of being able to fly back,” Peacock said, according to a British news channel.

“She needs to have an… injection and that was due on Thursday and so it’s vitally important they try and get her home now.”

Thai police on Friday ordered protesters immediately to leave one of Bangkok’s besieged second airport Don Mueang as anti-government leaders rejected last-ditch attempts to negotiate an end to the crisis.

Aussie on Top in 2nd Test As New Zealand At 262 For 6

ADELAIDE: Aaron Redmond hit 83 for New Zealand on day one of the second Test in Adelaide as the Black Caps closed on 262-6.

Spinner Nathan Hauritz, who replaced the injured Jason Krejza, took 2-62, including the key wicket of Redmond, caught by Andrew Symonds in the deep.

Ross Taylor (44) and Peter Fulton (29) added 64 as the Kiwis reached 194-3, before Australia reduced them to 228-6.

An unbroken partnership of 34 in 20 overs between Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori steadied the tourists.

New Zealand captain Vettori had targeted a total of 350 for his side after electing to bat first.

But Australia head into the second day knowing they are just one wicket away from bowling at the New Zealand tail.

The tourists started well reaching 101 for one at lunch, but from then on the wickets fell at regular intervals.

Jamie How (16), Jesse Ryder (13) and Fulton all got themselves out after working hard to get a start.

Hauritz had a mixed day ending with figures of 2-63 before injuring himself as he tried to field a ball in the outfield. He was helped off the ground and television pictures showed him in the changing rooms with his ankle strapped.

New Zealand began the final session on 196-4 before Taylor was trapped lbw to a ball from Stuart Clark that hit him high up on the pad.

Daniel Flynn contributed 11 before he was beaten by pace and bowled by Brett Lee.

His dismissal saw Vettori (12 not out) and McCullum (30 not out) join forces to steady the ship.

Brief scores: New Zealand 262-6 (Redmond 83, Krejza 2-62)

Battle For Mumbai Ends, Last Militants Killed

Commandos killed three holdout gunmen Saturday in Mumbai’s Taj Hotel, bringing an end to a two-day Islamic militant assault on India’s financial capital that left at least 155 dead, including 21 foreigners. The final attack on the historic seafront hotel was marked by heavy gunfire and loud explosions that triggered a fierce fire, as special forces units moved against gunmen who had held hundreds of security personnel at bay for three nights.”All operations are over. All the terrorists have been killed,” Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor said, 59 hours after the attacks began. On Friday, elite troops had stormed a Mumbai Jewish centre and killed two gunmen — but also found five dead Israeli hostages, including a US-based rabbi and his wife, who were murdered as the commandos closed in. The other luxury hotel that was attacked, the Oberoi/Trident, was declared clear of militants late Friday, with scores of trapped guests rescued and 24 bodies found. “They were the kind of people with no remorse — anybody and whomsoever came in front of them they fired,” an Indian commando said of the young gunmen who slipped into Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The head of the commando forces, J.K. Dutt, said his men were conducting a final sweep of the battle-scarred Taj. “We are now going through each and every room to make sure it is safe,” Dutt said, appealing to any guests still hiding in the hotel to make themselves known. “They must open their curtains so that our security forces can see inside and make sure there are only guests and no terrorist inside,” he said. Police officials put the death toll at around 155 people, with 327 others wounded. TV channels described the attacks as “India’s 9/11.” The 21 foreigners killed included the Israelis, two Americans, two French nationals, two Australians, a German, a Japanese, a Canadian, a British Cypriot, an Italian and a Singaporean. A government minister said the overall toll could rise as more corpses are recovered. “Once the bodies are collected, the number of deaths might go up to 200,” India’s Minister of State for Home Affairs Sri Prakash Jaiswal told the Press Trust of India. At least 11 militants were confirmed dead and one captured. Indian intelligence sources said the detained gunman had confessed to coming from Pakistan.

Mumbai Taj Mahal hotel attack is over: City Police Chief

MUMBAI: Indian commandos have killed the last Islamic militants holed up inside Mumbai’s Taj Mahal hotel, ending the more than two-day assault on India’s financial capital, the city’s police chief said.

“All (combat) operations are over. All the terrorists have been killed,” Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor said, 59 hours after the attacks began.

The historic, seafront Taj Mahal hotel was the last area in Mumbai where gunmen were still holed up.

Gafoor said the overall death toll from attacks stood at around 155 confirmed killed.

Mumbai Mayhem Ends; Toll Over 200

MUMBAI: Indian security officials said Saturday that the operation at Taj hotel has nearly come to an end and all the terrorists have been killed in the operation.

Talking to local media here, Indian National Security Guard (NSG) chief said the security personnel are busy with checking and clearing all the rooms at Taj hotel.

Director General of NSG JK Dutt said at least three terrorists have been killed at Taj hotel.

One of the terrorist, who was stood near the window, was killed when a security personnel shot at him while he attempted to lob a grenade.

“We found the dead bodies of two terrorists inside the hotel lobby. They had AK 47 guns on them,” Dutt said.

However, he added that he can not confirm if the Taj has been cleared of all terrorists as the sanitisation process was still on.

“I can’t say that our operation is over. To make sure that there is no other threat, we are still searching each and every room of the hotel,” Dutt said.

Earlier in the wee hours of Saturday fresh explosions were heard at the heritage hotel.

There was heavy firing and explosions in Wasabi restaurant in the Taj late on Friday night. Two to three terrorists are left and are intermittently firing at NSG.

The level of battle now seems to indicate a last assault at the Taj. There is still confusion over the total number of militants inside the hotel, but there seem to be no hostages or guests inside with them.

The Army said that the NSG was in contact with one terrorist in the old wing of Taj and that the operation in Taj was also in final stages.

There was also report of one injured militant inside the Taj hotel.

According to NSG Director General: “One injured terrorist is still inside Taj hotel. The stage seems to be set for a final operation there and the media has been asked to refrain from doing any live broadcasts from outside the hotel.”

Nariman House encounter ends

The commando operation against the terrorists at Nariman House ended on Friday.

NSG set off huge explosions to ensure no terrorist escaped and combed the building to ensure no more terrorists were left inside.

However, five hostages and two terrorists were found dead inside the building. A Jewish rabbi and his wife were among the dead at Nariman House.

NSG commandos came out of the Nariman House amid cheering crowds. Thousands of people had gathered outside the building. The Rapid Action Force even used lathis to control the crowd.

Earlier, seven hostages were taken out from the building.

After a 39-hour ordeal, the NSG finally got success in flushing out the terrorists from the Oberoi Trident Hotel on Friday.

Describing the mission, NSG chief J K Dutt said, “Both Trident, Oberoi are under our control and both the terrorists present in these hotels have been killed.”

Two AK-47 rifles, one pistol and few unexploded grenades have been seized, the NSG chief added.

According to the police, nine terrorists were killed and one was caught alive. The police said 24 dead bodies were found at Oberoi hotel on Friday, taking the total toll to 30.

At Trident, NSG commandos evacuated the people and they surrounded the Oberoi wing for the final push.

On early Friday morning, three explosions in three hours happened inside the Nariman House in Colaba, breaking the eerie silence.

The building was still in darkness when the Army closed in. Snipers took position at Nariman House. About 100 commandos went inside and helicopters circled above the building to monitor the situation.

At least 200 have been killed in the Mumbai encounter, including 14 policemen and 13 foreigners and 327 people have been injured and the sources feared that death toll may rise even higher. (Last updated at 1035)

Suicide bomber kills nine in Iraqi Shiite mosque

A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a Shiite mosque packed with worshippers during today November 28 prayers in a town south of the Iraqi capital, killing nine people and wounding another 15, police said.

The blast ripped through the mosque in Musaib a day after Iraq’s parliament approved a controversial military pact that will allow US troops to remain in the country for another three years.

The mosque was filled with around 300 worshippers when the bomber hit, destroying doors and windows and filling the building with smoke, police Lieutenant Kadhim al-Shammari said.

Most of the wounded were taken to the general hospital in Musaib, 80 km south of Baghdad, but three seriously wounded people were taken for treatment in the nearby town of Hilla.

In July 2005 more than 70 people were killed at the same mosque when a suicide bomber detonated a truck loaded with explosives and cooking gas near the building, causing serious damage.

Iraq has seen dramatic improvements in security over the past year but certain regions still suffer from near-daily bombings and attacks.

Friday’s attack bore the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has carried out scores of massive bombings targeting Shiite civilians since the 2003 US-led invasion of the country.

US and Iraqi forces allied with local Sunni militias have largely succeeded in flushing Al-Qaeda fighters out of their former strongholds, but the group retains the ability to regularly carry out smaller attacks.

Thai Protesters Force Police To Abandon Checkpoint

Hundreds of anti-government protesters forced several dozen Thai riot police to abandon a checkpoint on Saturday as they tightened their siege of the country’s main airport, witnesses said. Around 2,000 People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) supporters forced back about 150 police from a kilometer (0.6 mile) north of Suvarnabhumi Airport, although the incident passed off without violence. The protesters are seeking to oust Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat in the latest escalation in a long-running political crisis. A day after their police chief was sacked for mishandling the protests, commanders on the ground said they would not yet try to evict by force the thousands of protesters at Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports. But PAD supporters were taking no chances and on Saturday deflated the tires of ambulances and police vehicles at the police checkpoint. Several vehicles were left stranded in the middle of the road.
The PAD say they are ready for a prolonged siege, with their “security guards” armed with clubs, sticks and golf clubs, and dug in behind a series of barricades of fire trucks, razor wire, car tires and luggage trolleys. PAD co-leader and retired general Chamlong Srimuang told supporters on Saturday not to go to Suvarnabhumi as there were enough people there and instead go to Government House, where the protests started months ago. “Too many people will not help if police shut us there. If you’re on your way here, please go to the Government House because if police shut us here, we’ll still have people to help,” he said. In a televised address on Thursday night, Prime Minister Somchai said the PAD members barricaded at the airports were doing massive damage to the economy, but he would avoid violence to end the protests. “Don’t worry. Officials will use gentle measures to deal with them,” Somchai said, inviting rights groups and journalists to monitor the imposition of emergency rule at the two airports.

US Must Stand With India To Defeat Terrorism: Barack Obama

US President-elect Barack Obama has sent his “deepest condolences” to the loved ones of the American citizens who died in the outrageous terrorist attacks in Mumbai and said that America must stand with India to defeat the “hate-filled ideology”. “Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the American citizens who lost their lives in the outrageous terrorist attacks in Mumbai,” Obama said in a statement on Friday, following reports that a Virginia man and his daughter had been killed along with a rabbi from New York. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and with all who have been touched by this terrible tragedy,” Obama said. Stressing that the terrorists who targeted innocent civilians could not defeat “India’s great democracy”, nor “shake the will of a global coalition to defeat them”, Obama said, “The United States must stand with India and all nations and people who are committed to destroying terrorist networks, and defeating their hate-filled ideology.” Claiming there was only “one president at a time,” Obama said, “We fully support the Bush Administration’s efforts to protect American citizens and assist the government of India during this tragic time.” The future White House occupant, however, was receiving regular updates from Bush’s administration. “I will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground in Mumbai and am grateful for the cooperation of the Bush administration in keeping me and my staff updated.” Obama was also in touch with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as well as with Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen over the latest development in Mumbai.

Mortar Bombs Hurt 6 Israeli Troops on Gaza Border

Palestinian militants fired three mortar bombs across the Gaza Strip’s border on Friday, wounding six Israeli soldiers, the army said. The Popular Resistance Committees militant group claimed the attack on Nahal Oz, a kibbutz that has a military garrison.

Hours earlier, Gaza’s ruling Islamist Hamas faction said two of its gunmen were wounded in an Israeli air strike. Militants have fired dozens of rockets and mortar bombs at Israel in the past three weeks after Israel launched raids that killed about a dozen gunmen, and closed crossing points with Gaza, choking off some food supplies to the coastal territory.

Priyanka: Picture perfect

At the fag end of the year, Priyanka Chopra has emerged as the numero uno actress in Bollywood.

The former Miss World features on the list of the top ten celebrities in the country, after her recent back-to-back hits Fashion and Dostana. Here’s what she told Chennai Times when she was in the city for a Tag Heuer campaign.

After your recent hits Fashion and Dostana, the media is suddenly going ga-ga over you. Bollywood pundits have anointed you as the new number one at the box office. How do you feel about it?
Firstly, I don’t believe in numbers. This ‘numero uno’ position is all media created and the industry treats you well if you churn out hits. Believe me, I have worked with the same passion in a few of my earlier films that were not as successful as my recent ones. I think my time is good and God has been kind to me.

Are you spiritual?
I’m a very spiritual person who believes in destiny and faith. I’m an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. After my recent hits, the first thing I did was to visit a temple in Mumbai, a sort of thanksgiving.

How closely do you identify with the Meghana Mathur character in Fashion as you have also been a super model?
To be honest, I could not relate to Megna as it is not me. After winning the Miss World title, thanks to God and my parents, I had my feet on the ground despite the huge success. My modelling days lasted hardly six months before I ventured into movies. The only similarity between Meghana and Priyanka are that they come from small towns.

Many consider your performance in Fashion to be your best till date. You have proved yourself to be an actress of substance...
Thank you. I have been receiving a lot of accolades for my performance as Megna Mathur and all credit goes to Madhur Bhandarkar who made it possible. I did a lot of homework for the character by going to fashion shows and interacting with models and those in the fashion industry. I have been getting a lot of appreciation even from Chennai for Fashion and Dostana.

Tell us about Dostana and Neha Melwani, the current flavour in Bollywood.
Dostana will remain one of my all time favourites. I had a ball doing the film in Miami.

Many of my relatives live in US. So it was one big picnic for me, my brother and parents. And as the only girl on the sets, it was great fun working in a film where Abhishek and John pretend to be gays.
Your make-up and styling in the film have become the envy of other actresses in the industry. How did you look so good in the film?
I would like to give full credit to Micky Contractor for his make-up, hair and styling, Manish Malhotra for his clothes, director Tarun Mansukhani for conceiving my character and Karan Johar for giving me the film. And of course, without Ayananka Bose’s camera and lighting, I would not have looked smashing.

Do you regret your debut film Tamizhan in Kollywood?
I have no regrets because, like I said earlier, it is all fate. I would like to add that it was not the best of the films to make a debut for a young girl who was hardly 20 and did not know the industry. Now, I feel it was a learning experience.

But producers here still claim that they are trying to rope you in for their projects with big money. Please comment...
I will only go by the script for any film I do as money is not part of the criteria when it comes to doing movies. Yes, they have been offering me ridiculous amounts but it is not my cup of tea at the moment.

Shah Rukh Khan says you are the “sexiest Indian actress”. What do you say?
I think it is a very nice compliment, coming from one of the greatest actors in the country. We had a blast working together in Don, and now, I’m doing a special appearance in his Billoo Barber.

On your forthcoming films...
I’m doing Kaminey with Shahid Kapoor directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. In the film, I play a Maharashtrian college girl and it’s an action comedy. Then, there is Ashutosh Gowarikar’s romantic comedy What’s your Rashee?, with Harman Baweja.

"Last night, as the events of the terror attack unfolded in front of me I did something for the first time andone that I had hoped never ever to be in a situation to do.Before retiring for the night, I pulled out my licensed .32revolver, loaded it and put it under my pillow. For a verydisturbed sleep," the megastar wrote on his blog.

Bachchan was glued to TV screen as security personnel battled the militants yesterday, also the birth anniversary of his father. Bachchan, known for his on-screen 'Angry Young Man'image depicting the rebellious youth, fumed with anger at the "ineptitude of the authorities" who were supposed to take careof the country.

"My pain has been the sight and plight of my innocentand vulnerable and completely insecure countrymen, facing thewrath of this terror attack. And my anger has been at theineptitude of the authorities that have been ordained to lookafter us," Big B expressed in his blog. Lauding the efforts of troops in tackling the terrorsituation, he wrote "brilliant officers and police personnelhave laid down their lives for us. I can only but salute themand respect their sincerity in the call of duty."

Bachchan was disgruntled over the cliche "spirit ofMumbai" which he said people were using to cover the traumaticexperiences that every merry city underwent in recent years.

Sallu and Katz: a good pair!

Ooh la la, mon cherries, excuse the phoren words; but we’re in a rather lingo-istic mood these days.

And it comes ‘unabridged’ from a language-edition of two rocking stars. Firstly, our studboy Sallu, who’s in high spirits these days. And there are many signs to prove that. One — he’s been extremely media-friendly (and nah, he’s not the kinda star who romances the media just ‘pre’ a movie release, and then leaves them out in the cold). Come sunshine, rain or release, Salman talks only and only when he wants to. And Yuvvraaj seems to have benefited most from his sudden volley of (candid) quotations. No planned blitzkrieg this, yet, he’s surprised us all, with his mega volleys and honest quotables. Whatever happened to the press-shy Sallu syndrome?

online video movie yuvraj-movie-2008-dvdrip-part3-of-15wmv.html Yuvraj Movie 2008

Not that we’re complaining. We like this dude, really. On the personal front, Katrina Kaif and he have been posing as a comfy couple (of course, we’d love to see little more PDA), in front of the media’s prying eyes too. So much that they cutely tease each other, well, obviously with Sallu taking the lead in this area.

Recently when he was asked if he helped Kats with her Hindi, pat came the grinning reply, “Meri khudki Hindi saaf nahin hai. How can I teach her?” Then we quizzed him about his angrezi, which is kuch zyada hi propah and accented, and he added, “English mein bhi thoda thoda kahin accent aajaata hai.” Yay, yay! We know Sallu, it’s probably the Brit-beauty rub-off, eh? Blame it on the lovely Kats, dahlings!

Mumbai Attacks Kill 100, operation Underway

MUMBAI: More than 100 people have been killed, including nine foreigners and at least 287 injured in a series of well-coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Terrorists, who apparently came in by boats, struck at 10 places in south Mumbai including five-star hotels, hospitals and train stations.

There is hostage situation in at least two locations — the Taj and the Trident hotels. In the Taj Colaba, at least 100 people are believed to be trapped probably held hostage by terrorists. Some of these are Israeli and Canadian nationals.

NSG and Military Commandos entered the Taj and Trident hotels. Five terrorists have been killed. Several staff members at the hotels have also been killed, including two at Trident. Gunshots continue to be heard.

NSG Commandos have launched operations in the Nariman House building in Colaba. This was the second place that was attacked in Mumbai. Two men came on a scooter and hurled a grenade at nearby petrol pump.

Though the grenade missed the petrol reservoir, it destroyed a facade of the station. The terrorists then ran into Nariman House building behind petrol pump into a Jewish residential building. Here, the terrorists murdered two people and then went silent for several hours till early this morning. This is another place apart from the Taj and the Trident, which are under siege.

According to latest reports, policemen have succeeded in flushing out terrorists from the Cama hospital and everything seems to be calm now. Curfew has been imposed at Colaba and Gateway of India. At least 800 Army personnel have been deployed at various locations in Mumbai.

At least 14 policemen have been killed across the city, including the head of the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad Hemant Karkare, who was shot three times in the chest.

Well-known encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar is also dead. Additional Commissioner of Police Sadanand Date is critical. Every top line anti-terror force in the country has been pushed into Mumbai including commandos of the National Security Guard, Marine Commandos and Army commandos.

There are also reports of low intensity blast in Ville Parle and grenade attack in Santa Cruz. Two blasts have been reported in Napean Sea road area of south Mumbai.

“Encounter is on between police and terrorists at Taj and Trident. Our people have surrounded them and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team has arrived at the Taj hotel,” A N Roy, Deputy Police Commissioner.

Many foreigners have been held hostage by the terrorists. “Gunmen took 15 hostages and half of them foreigners,” said an eye-witness at Taj hotel.

“Gunmen wanted anyone with British or American passport,” said another eye-witness.

Five terrorists are killed, two escaped and nine have been arrested. An unknown organisation called the Deccan Mujahideen has taken the responsibility for the terror attacks.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be addressing the nation later in the day and he has called an emergency Cabinet meeting. Home Minister Shivraj Patil is back in Delhi from Mumbai for the meet.

Cabinet Committee on Security will meet before the full Cabinet meet. The Prime Minister’s election rally in Delhi scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled.

Maharashtra Cabinet is scheduled to meet at 2 pm and there is also an all-party meet at 3 pm. State government has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for those killed and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the attacks.

Speaking to media, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil said, “There is no plan for talks with the terrorists. Claiming to have some “vital leads”, the minister expressed confidence of a breakthrough soon.

Intelligence sources say that foreign hand is fully evident in these attacks. They have arrested a Pakistan national from Chowpatty area in the city.

Speaking to local media, Maharashtra Director General of Police A N Roy said, “There is no indication so far of the identity of the terrorists.”

He said that the terrorists were highly armed, level of weapons and training suggest that they are not locals. He said, “There is hostage situation at Trident and the police were trying to capture the ultras alive.”

“Fifty per cent operation is complete at Taj. There is no hostage-like situation at Taj anymore,” he further said.

Police have seized a rubber boat, which anchored off Mumbai harbour. It all started with incidents of firing in Colaba and near CST station.

Meanwhile, train services have resumed at the CST station. Lufthansa, Northwest and Air France have cancelled their flights.

On their part, hotels in Mumbai have been asked not to take new guests.

PM Manmohan Singh Vows Action on Attacks

NEW DEHLI: India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has vowed to take “whatever measures are necessary” to track down those responsible for the Mumbai attacks.

In his address to nation, Singh called on all Indians to remain united following the co-ordinated attacks that have left 101 dead and 300 injured.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also said that the attacks in Mumbai which killed more than 100 people were well-planned and probably had “external linkages”.

“The well-planned and well-orchestrated attacks, probably with external linkages, were intended to create a sense of terror by choosing high-profile targets,” Singh said in an address to the nation.

At least seven sites in the city were targeted by gunmen late on Wednesday.

Some hostages have been freed but blasts continue to be heard at three sites, including two luxury hotels.

Police chief AN Roy said hostages had been rescued from the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, but gunmen were still believed to have laid siege to the Oberoi Trident hotel.

Earlier, eyewitness reports from the hotels suggested the attackers were singling out British and American passport holders.

If the reports are true, our security correspondent Frank Gardner says it implies an Islamist motive - attacks inspired or co-ordinated by al-Qaeda.

A claim of responsibility has been made by a previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen. Our correspondent says it could be a hoax or assumed name for another group.

Singh described the attacks as “well-planned and well-orchestrated”, targeting high-profile targets such as foreigners.

“We will take whatever measures are necessary to ensure the security and safety of our citizens,” he said in an address to the nation.

Will Bipasha lose out to Vidya?

After Bipasha Basu suddenly left Kashmir while shooting for Lamhaa, producer Bunty Walia and director Rahul Dholakia are having second thoughts

about her being the film’s lead actress.

Whether Bipasha will remain a part of the film or not will be decided after she has a meeting with Bunty and Rahul today.

Meanwhile Bunty and Rahul are already looking at options to replace Bipasha if she does not agree to travel to Kashmir for a shooting schedule in January. One of the strongest contenders to step into Bipasha’s shoes is Vidya Balan.

Recently, Rahul drove down to Wai to meet Vidya for the purpose. A couple of weeks ago Bipasha had left the film’s shooting mid-way and had flown down from Kashmir to Mumbai. The cast and crew of Lamhaa were shooting a sequence at Anantnag, which is 55 kms away from Srinagar.

Rumour has it that Bipasha received a call after which she was very distressed. Suddenly she stalled the shoot and went inside her van. She then called up Rahul from inside and told him that she was returning to the hotel. Rahul followed Bipasha’s van and reached the hotel to have a talk with her. However, he was shocked to see Bipasha packing her bags and heading to the airport. Rahul tried to stop her but Bipasha shot back saying, “You won’t understand Rahul, you’re not a woman.”

An industry insider said, “In January, Bunty and Rahul need to shoot for 10 days in Kashmir. If Bipasha doesn’t comply she can’t be a part of the film.”

When contacted, Bunty said, “We need to shoot in Kashmir for 10 days. I will start the shoot from January 4. I need Bipasha there. I have been given to understand by her and her manager that she is averse to going back to Kashmir. But I think I will convince her to do so. ”

Rahul said, “I need Bipasha in Kashmir. I am meeting her for the same today.” When asked if Bipasha would still remain a part of Lamhaa even if she didn’t agree to go to Kashmir, Rahul said, “I will cross the bridge when I come to it.”

Curfew Held In Mumbai

MUMBAI: Teams of gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular restaurant, a crowded train station and a Jewish group’s headquarters in India’s financial capital, killing at least 101people, taking Westerners hostage and leaving parts of the city under siege Thursday, police said.

A group of suspected Muslim militants claimed responsibility. Police and gunmen were exchanging occasional gunfire at two luxury hotels and dozens of people were believed held hostage or trapped in besieged buildings.

Pradeep Indulkar, a senior official at the Maharashtra state Home Ministry said 101 people were killed and 287 injured.

Officials said at least eight militants had also been killed since the overnight attacks that targeted at least 10 separate sites began around 9:30 p.m.

Gunmen also seized the Mumbai headquarters of the ultra-orthodox Jewish outreach group Chabad Lubavitch, the New York-based group said.

Indian commandos surrounded the building in the morning, and media reports said gunfire was heard from the building.

Police loudspeakers declared a curfew around Mumbai’s landmark Taj Mahal hotel, and black-clad commandos ran into the building as fresh gunshots rang out from the area, apparently the beginning of an assault on gunmen who had taken hostages in the hotel.

mbulances were seen driving up to the entrance to the hotel andjournalists were made to move even further back from the area.Soldiers outside the hotel said forces were moving slowly, from roomto room, looking for gunmen and traps.

A series of explosions had rocked the Taj Mahal just after midnight. Screams were heard and black smoke billowed from the century-old edifice on Mumbai’s waterfront.

Early Thursday, state home secretary Bipin Shrimali said four suspects had been killed in two incidents in Mumbai when they tried to flee in cars, and Roy said four more gunmen were killed at the Taj Mahal. State Home Minister R.R. Patil said nine more were arrested. They declined to provide any further details.

“We’re going to catch them dead or alive,” Patil told reporters. “An attack on Mumbai is an attack on the rest of the country.”

The state government ordered schools and colleges and the Bombay Stock Exchange closed Thursday.

Police reported hostages being held at the Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels, two of the best-known upscale destinations in this crowded but wealthy city.

Officials at Bombay Hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a Japanese man had died there and nine Europeans had been admitted, three of them in critical condition with gunshots. All had come from the Taj Mahal, the officials said.

Early Thursday, several European lawmakers were among people who barricaded themselves inside the Taj, a century-old seaside hotel complex and one of the city’s best-known destinations.

Manmohan Singh likely to address nation in Wake of Mumbai Blasts

New Delhi: The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, is expected to address the nation in a couple of hours from now in the wake of Wednesday’s night’s planned and synchronised terror strikes in Mumbai, which left at least 100 people dead and over 200 injured.

Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office were quoted by NDTV as saying that Dr. Singh would address the nation, but only after it was confirmed that the operation to nab the terrorists behind the attacks was over.

Dr. Singh had earlier condemned the serial terrorist attacks in Mumbai and assured the State Government of all cooperation and help.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who had rushed to Mumbai in the wee hours to take stock of the situation arising out of the terror attacks along with the Director General of National Security Guards (NSG) J K Dutt, has since returned to the national capital to brief the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister has called an emergency meeting of the Union Cabinet to review the situation in the aftermath of the attacks, and to determine what measures are needed to keep the law and order situation in Mumbai and in other parts of the country under control.

Earlier, Patil described the attack as a conspiracy against India and is said to have discussed the situation with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and assured him of all help from the centre to combat the situation.

As an immediate measure of help, he directed the rushing of about 200 NSG commandos to Mumbai to help the state police in dealing with the ongoing terrorist crisis in the city.

The Army has also been pressed into service along with Naval commandos and the Rapid Action Force.

“Five columns of the army, NSG as well as navy commandos were rushed to Mumbai immediately after the attacks,” a source in the PMO, was quoted as saying.

PMO sources also confirmed that air surveillance has been increased in all over India and vital installations have been put on high alert following the attacks in Mumbai. (ANI)

Aishwarya Rai teams Up With Bhansali

AISHWARYA Rai Bachchan, who has given the nod to be a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, is backing the ace director despite his last movie Saawariya being a box office disaster. The film was also not spared by critics as they panned it heavily and audiences shied away from watching it at the theatres. Ash feels that one failure does not mean that Bhansali should be written off from the Bollywood map as he is one of the best talents the country has ever produced. “Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gifted me two of my most memorable films,” Ash says, referring to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas.

“He is a master filmmaker and I don’t think one failure is a very big deal.

Aishwarya Rai wallpaper

Everyone has highs and lows in their career and you can’t write anyone off just because he has failed once. Look at the films he has made, you can’t write him off or take away the enormous wealth of talent he has in him. That’s unfair. He is one of the best filmmakers India has ever produced and he will continue to make great films.” However, Ash chooses to remain mum about the project.

India rejects Obama proposal on Kashmir

NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday shot down US Predient-elect Barack Obama’s suggestion that former US President Bill Clinton could prod India and Pakistan into making peace over Kashmir.

Addressing a joint press conference with visiting Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee ruled out third-party intervention.

Mukherjee said Jammu and Kashmir was “essentially a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan”.

Both the Foreign Ministers advocated that the India-Pakistan cricket series – scheduled for early next year in Pakistan – should be played, despite apprehensions over the security of the Indian team.

On Thursday, the two Ministers will travel together to Chandigarh to address a seminar.

Qureshi was most enthusiastic on the issue of cricket. “The people of India and Pakistan love cricket,” he said, urging New Delhi to “let the people of the subcontinent enjoy the game”.

The series is to begin in January and there are apprehensions about exposing Indian cricketers to the danger of terror strike in Pakistan. “We will address all your security concerns,” Qureshi promised.

Mukherjee hoped the Indian cricket team will go to Pakistan and “the people will enjoy”.

On the fate of Sarabjit Singh, Qureshi said Islamabad was examining the issue and “hopefully something positive will come out of it”.

Meanwhile, the Home Secretaries from the two countries wound up their two-day meeting in Islamabad on issues like terrorism and drug trafficking.

They agreed on cooperation between the CBI and the Federal Investigation of Pakistan on issues like human trafficking, illegal immigration, counterfeit currency and dealing with wanted criminals against whom Red Corner notices had been issued by the Interpol.
