SRINAGAR: The people of occupied Kashmir faced coldest morning of the season so far with temperatures plunging to minus 2.5 degree Celsius as dense fog badly impacted the traffic movement across the Valley.
Srinagar’s Meteorology Centre, said that the minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. IST was minus 2.5, which is the lowest since the onset of winter in Kashmir valley this season. Earlier, the lowest temperature was recorded at minus 2.2 degrees against 0.0-degree normal temperature during this
period of winter, media reported.
Meanwhile, the road traffic was hit by the dense fog that enveloped the Srinagar city. Vehicles kept their headlights on to ply on streets for the larger part of the day. However, things became normal as the day progressed. “Fog is not unusual at this time of the season,” Director of Meteorology Centre said, adding, “visibility in Srinagar city dropped to less than 10 metre because of the fog.”
The severe cold and prolonged fog this winter has affected the normal life especially the school-going children. As most of the people preferred to stay indoors in the morning, small children, holding heavy school bags, were seen waiting for their buses at different places in the city. Due to the cold, taps at many places in the city and adjoining areas too were frozen in the morning.
