Suicide Bomb Blast in Iraq 13 killed

BAGHDAD: A female suicide bomber blew herself up outside Baghdad's heavily-guarded Green Zone Monday, killing at least 13 people and wounding a dozen others, police said.

Police at first believed the rush-hour blast was caused by a sticky bomb, but later said it was caused by a woman suicide bomber who set off an explosives vest in a crowd of Iraqi employees waiting to enter.

The attack took place near one of the main entrances to the zone, which houses Iraq's parliament and several government offices and foreign embassies, sending a black pillar of smoke into the sky, according to a news agency reporter.

Iraq has seen significant improvements in security over the past year but bombings are still common in the capital and other restive areas.
