G-7 recognizes Pak sacrifices in war on terror: FM


MULTAN: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that G-7 industrialized countries recognize the sacrifices offered by Pakistan in the on-going war against terrorism and has promised to support us to overcome economic crisis.

While addressing a gathering of businessmen and industrialists at Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) here, Foreign Minister said that the Friends of Democratic Pakistan Forum comprises G-7 industrialized countries besides Saudi Arabia, UAE and China, and he expressed the confidence that the support will come soon.

He said that an economic wing has been made functional in the Foreign Office which will ensure speedy implementation of different business and trade-related agreements Pakistan has made with other countries.

He said that relations between countries revolve around shared economic interests and added that he has introduced economic diplomacy concept to deepen Pakistan's relations with other countries.

He termed China as a trusted and time-tested friend and added that the economic relations with our all weather friend needed to be strengthened further. He said that a sincere attempt was made in this direction during the last visit to China and Pakistan was able to secure promises from China to set up two more nuclear power plants, a telecom satellite project, and investments in banking and other sectors.

He said that bilateral trade volume between China and Pakistan needed to be increased further.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that 160 multinational companies have made investments in Pakistan and the very fact clearly shows that situation was conducive for investment in Pakistan.

Citing an example, he said that China mobile company Zong has invested US$800 million in telecommunications sector and is ready to pump another US$800 million into its business operations in Pakistan.
