6 Freedom Fighters Arrested In Indian Held Kashmir


SRINAGAR: Continuing its crackdown on freedom fighters, Indian held Kashmir Police arrested People's League president Khan Sopori and five other leaders of the outfit here on Sunday.

Police raided the headquarters of the hardliner faction of the Hurriyat Conference in Rajbagh area and arrested the six while they were holding a meeting, official sources said.

Besides Sopori, others arrested were Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, Ashiq Hussain, Ghulam Rasool, Sanaullah Mir and Ghulam Rasool Tantray.

The People's League is a constituent of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference.

This was the second raid on the Hurriyat office in the past three days. On Friday, police arrested hardline faction's acting chairman Ghulam Nabi Sumji.

Hours before, they arrested JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees chief Showkat Ahmad Shah under the Unlawful Activities Act for launching an anti-election campaign.

Sunday's arrests came a day before the proposed joint march of separatists to Lal Chowk here on Monday to protest the landing of Indian troops in Kashmir valley on October 27, 1947.
