KABUL: Afghan local officials have confirmed the fatalities of at least 33 civilians in the incident happened in Kandahar Province when a wedding party was bombed by US planes late on Tuesday evening.
Ten women and 23 children were among the dead, said a local Afghan official, adding the casualties might further be increased.
American officials in Afghanistan have also confirmed that a number of civilians have been killed in the air strike.
An American military spokesman said he was certain there were civilian casualties and expressed sorrow for what had happened. Official also hinted at carrying out a probe into what went wrong, reported A Pakistannews.com
This is the latest incident to involve civilian casualties and underlines the challenge ahead for new US President-elect Barack Obama.
