Mumford and Sons and Brothers Avett conducted before the introduction of Dylan, well before the final curtain opened to reveal Dylan was already clear that the centerpiece of the ensemble has been shared.
Honest songwriting, Avett says, is the main goal of the band, despite its reputation for performance-losing your mind. “The reality is that we are not great musicians,” he said with a laugh. “We do OK, but our main concern is writing. That’s what counts for us. Then we find a way to play. We certainly do not want it to sound like a record on stage. We want that it is loose and raw materials. We try to bring the spirit, the real living energy to the table and not so technical triumph.
